Based on input from neighbors at the farmer's market, we ran a trial run last Autumn to see how we could get the benefits of a food cooperative, without the real estate needed to build a physical store, by partnering with existing 3rd spaces nearby.
We put together a pre-order and pick up system of 7 large produce bags from the last Brighton Farmer's Market of the season, each on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale of $10 - $50, alongside a vinyl listening studio experience where people would linger and chat for a couple of minutes, getting to know neighbors and checking out some records, all while picking up affordable fresh local produce.
In a neighborhood where rent, build-out, and maintenance are huge costs, can we bypass a challenging part of the food access equation and end up with an even better solution for all?
